SNACKS provided by POP CHIPS

Healthier, delicious, all-natural. actually, popchips are all that and a bag of chips! how do they do it? well, for starters, popchips aren’t fried (unhealthy) and they’re not baked (undelicious). popchips are popped using heat and pressure to create a snack so delicious and crispy you won't even notice it's (dare we say?) healthier. for more information, please pop on over to popchips.com.

THE PANELISTS**:

Jessica Lee

Director of Aquisitions, Indies Direct

Jessica Lee is an Attorney and Consulting Producer for film. Most recently, she worked as a producer for marketing and distribution for American Faust: From Condi to Neo Condi, a documentary about the corruptive rise to power of Condoleezza Rice. The film premiered at the 2009 Denver Film Festival, where it was a runner-up for the prestigious Maysles Award. The film recently completed a theater run at the Starz Denver Film Center and won the Golden Palm Award at the 2010 Mexico International Film Festival.

She also serves as the Director of Acquisitions for Indies Direct (www.indiesdirect.com), a pioneering new online distribution company that aims to help filmmakers connect with their audiences, while retaining the lion’s share of profits from the sales of their films. The venture, started by Sebastian Doggart, the Director of American Faust, is currently in its pre-launch phase.

A self-described social media junkie, Lee spends a lot of time on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and Vimeo, amongst others, making connections and promoting her projects. She is a graduate of Columbia University's School of Law and spent four years in private practice before shifting to producing. She is a member of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts where she has represented both artists and filmmakers.

Mark Lipsky

Consultant, Insight Cinema

Lipsky’s career took flight in a time when films made outside of the Hollywood system were consistently profound, thrilling and genuinely independent. At the legendary Cinema 5, Lipsky had a hand in the release of some of the most celebrated European and American independent titles of the day. Perhaps more importantly, he was exposed to the company’s enigmatic and inspired President, Don Rugoff, the first and last impresario of the Independent film movement. Rugoff, through his chain of unrivaled Manhattan movie houses and a steady stream of elite content, was the first to market and exhibit off-Hollywood cinema on par with commercial blockbusters.

Dan Talbot’s New Yorker Films presented the first opportunity for Lipsky to work together with his brother Jeff, whose own film career began under the tutelage of original DIY filmmaker John Cassavetes, While Cinema 5 mainly focused on works by internationally renowned directors, New Yorker introduced Americans to inspired upstarts from across the globe including Bertolucci, Fassbinder, Sembene, Godard, Ozu, Rohmer, Wenders and Almodovar along with Americans Errol Morris, Wayne Wang, John Sayles and many others.

After a brief side trip off the reservation with Paramount Pictures, Lipsky returned to the fold when he accepted a position at a quirky and anonymous company called Miramax Films. It was here where Lipsky cemented his reputation as a passionate and innovative marketer and where his efforts were acknowledged as the primary catalyst that transitioned the company from industry oddity to industry leader.

Mark Lipsky's Insight Cinema offers domestic and international distributors, producers and filmmakers advice on digital strategies and audience development among other issues. He blogs at InciteCinema, a plug-and-play solution for American independents and filmmakers around the globe who wish to either bypass or enhance traditional bricks-and-mortar release strategies.
